ATTY. JOAN DE VENECIA-FABUL

Joan de Venecia-Fabul assumed the role of Deputy Chief Legal Counsel of PLDT Inc. with the rank of Vice President in April 2019. She was promoted to the rank of First Vice President in November 2020.

Before this, she was the Vice President and General Counsel of listed Philippine company Philex Mining Corporation and was concurrently its Data Protection Officer and head of Human Resources. She was a member of the Senior Management team of Philex throughout her tenure.

Prior to joining Philex, Ms. De Venecia-Fabul was the Vice President for Public Relations of the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund. Before that, she was a Senior Associate at SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan, where she started her legal career.

Currently, Ms. De Venecia-Fabul is a professorial lecturer at the University of the Philippines College of Law (UP Law), teaching Public International Law, as well as a regular lecturer in Mandatory Continuing Legal Education seminars, particularly on investor-State arbitration. She also teaches International Tribunals to LL.M. students at San Sebastián Recoletos.

Ms. De Venecia-Fabul is an admin of the largest lawyers-only group for Filipinos on Facebook, Abogadong Pinoy. She is also the founder and admin of the BTS fan group, Borahae from Manila.

Ms. De Venecia-Fabul led the UP Law Class of 2005 as its valedictorian (cum laude and Academic Excellence awardee), and topped the Bar exam she took that same year. She holds an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University under a Fulbright grant and full tuition Hugo Grotius scholarship.
