Atty. Howard M. Calleja graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in BS Physical Therapy. He obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law. He then obtained his Master of Laws degree from Duke University, U.S.A. He was admitted in both the Philippine and the New York State Bars in 1995 and 2005, respectively. He received a Certificate in International Law from the Hague Academy of International Law, Netherlands.

Atty. Calleja is one of the most sought-after lawyers in the country, handling civil, criminal, commercial and labor cases. As a criminal defense lawyer, he has successfully bailed or acquitted the accused in many sensational cases. He is also a pioneer in the field of Family Law, and was the first in the country to be granted a Temporary Protection Order under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. He has successfully defended one of the biggest mining companies in the Philippines, which was involved in one of the largest mining disasters in the history of the country. In another case involving another mining conglomerate, Atty. Calleja was instrumental in the defense of the fisherfolk and the poor. He has also assisted clients in settling multi-million peso estates. In the area of Election Law, Atty. Calleja has distinguished himself as an authority from the early days of manual counting up to the recent automation of the polls, and has handled numerous elections cases.

Atty. Calleja is currently a professor at the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law and De La Salle University College of Law. Atty. Calleja is also a lecturer in Election Law, Civil Law and International Law for the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE). He authored several books and journals on Torts and Damages, and Election Law.
